Whenever we explain the Foundational Difference, the question we often get asked is:
HOW are your adjustments different than regular chiropractic?
Most individuals understand the WHY. Yes, correcting shifted segments in the spine can decrease many secondary complaints (symptoms). But HOW you go about fixing my problem is the big question. Knowing this can ease the anxiety of getting adjusted for those who are new to Foundational Chiropractic.
Conventional Chiropractic Adjustments

Most individuals picture typical chiropractic adjustments with a lot of “twisting, popping, and cracking.” The more cracks and pops you can get, the better it’ll be. However, this non-specific, gross manipulation type of chiropractic has a different set of goals as compared to Foundational Correction.
The goals of traditional manipulations include:
- Increasing range of motion
- Decreasing muscle spasms
- Decreasing pain.

These goals sound great, but at the end of the day, it is a temporary fix. Think about it like this; you live in a house that has a weak foundation. The structure is not right, and it is causing you problems. Your drywall keeps cracking, the floorboards are getting loose, and the windows don’t close properly.
Do you think it is wise to keep repairing these secondary effects over and over again, or would it be better to FIX the primary condition that is causing these issues?
Foundational Correction Fixes the Primary Condition

Unlike traditional chiropractic adjustments, Foundational Correction looks to correct the primary condition by focusing on the upper spine and specifically correcting that region back to normal. At the upper spine, you have the first bone in your neck which is called the Atlas vertebra. This segment is the keystone to your body’s structural foundation. Even the slightest shift can lead to a myriad of common secondary complaints such as headaches, migraines, neck, and low back pain. In our office, we call this condition ADC or Atlas Displacement Complex.
Atlas corrections are utilized by Foundational Chiropractors that specifically focus on correcting the primary condition ADC. What makes this approach unique is how specific it is. Our Comprehensive Foundational Chiropractic Examination is designed to determine how your foundation has shifted away from normal. The adjustment itself is gentle, with none of the violent twisting or popping associated with conventional chiropractic manipulation.
Normal Structure is restored when ADC is corrected. The head is balanced over the neck and shoulders, secondary complaints such as headaches, migraines, neck, and low back pain are reduced and/or resolved. Most importantly, your body functions better when the Atlas is in the normal position: obstructions at the brain stem and spinal cord are removed, improved blood flow to and from the brain, improved cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) circulation, and a reduction in blood pressure can be restored.
Normal Foundation, Normal Function

Because of the specific nature of Foundational Correction, chiropractors who correct ADC see a variety of complex cases in their clinics, in addition to some of the more common secondary conditions such as neck/back pain, headaches, migraines, etc. Some of the more neurologically-based conditions include:
- Concussions/CTE
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Seizure Disorders
- Fibromyalgia
- Vertigo/Dizziness

Understandably, many people are hesitant to have their neck and back manipulated. Because of the precise and gentle nature of Foundational Corrective chiropractic care, there have been little to no adverse effects reported. So get your Foundation examined to see if you have ADC (Atlas Displacement Complex), as it can be the primary cause of many secondary health conditions. Once corrected, the body is allowed to heal and function optimally. Call us today at 813-578-5889 or visit here to schedule your complimentary consultation.
